First Lutheran Church invites all children to step right up at Everywhere Fun Fair: Where God's World Comes Together Vacation Bible School. Explore and experience God's welcoming love at VBS! The adventures include interactive Bible fun and great music, super science, cool crafts, hands-on mission work, global games, and more!

Call Process Update

We have a call committee! On May 13, 2012 the Congregational Council elected a call committee of six persons, as required by our congregation’s Constitution, from those members of our congregation that submitted an application to serve on the call committee. An alternate was also elected to serve in the event one of the call committee members can no longer serve due to unforeseen circumstances. The call committee and alternate will be: Ben Hurt, Jerry Johnson, Ed Klonowski, Jeff Leake, Emily Reinke, Melissa Smith; alternate: Christine Trupin.

Affirm

Affirm is a Discipleship and Leadership Training event for youth in grades 6–12 as well as college freshmen or sophomores who are members of an ELCA Southeastern Synod congregation. Affirm will be held at Berry College on June 16th–June 21st. Affirm's capacity is 375 youth, and units fill up fast, so please register online today or download the registration forms. The cost is $350.

Mid-Year Budget Approval Meeting

The Council has called a meeting for the sole purpose of approving a Mid-year Budget for July – December, 2013. The meeting will be held on Sunday, June 23rd at 9:30 am in the Assembly Hall. This meeting is necessary because some expenses have increased and others have decreased. There will be no new items in the budget, simply a reallocation of some current items.

113 Club to Barbara's Home Cookin'

The 113 Club, our seniors' fellowship group, is going to Barbara's Home Cookin' in Franklin on Thursday, June 27. They generally meet at the church around 10:00 am and caravan to the restaurant.

Lutheran Church Night at the Sounds

Join us for another fun night of baseball and BBQ as the Nashville Sounds take on the Oklahoma City Red Hawks at Greer Stadium on Saturday, June 29th at 5:30 PM.

Admission grants you access to the Party Patio, a reserved seat for the game and an all-you-can-eat picnic from 5:30-7:00 pm (menu: BBQ Pork; hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips, soft drinks, water and cookies.) You will also receive $2 Miller Lite drafts until the 7th inning.
Seating is limited, so order your tickets early!!

The cost is: $32/adults, $27/children (3-13)

God's Work Our Hands Mission Group

God's Work Our Hands, the youth mission organization that stayed with us for a week last year, is returning this year with two separate groups of kids over two weeks.

They are a coalition of Lutheran congregations that plan mission trips for youth while retaining a uniquely Lutheran identity and theology.
Their worksites for this year include: VBS here at First Lutheran, St Paul Lutheran, Soles for Souls, McNeilly Center, Good Food for Good People, Green Hills Nursing Home, and Project Cure.

Lectors' Workshop

Pr. Brian will lead a workshop for all current lectors and those interested in serving as lectors. Even if you have many years of experience, please plan to come to one of the two opportunities for
training.

The lector workshop is to help us move from good to excellent. The public reading of scripture is not just to facilitate the preaching of the sermon. Rather, each of the three appointed readings, though coordinated with the others and forming the theme of the day, are also significant pieces in their own right.

Mid-Summer Picnic

We'll wrap up our July commUNITY activities with a picnic at Sevier Park. Barbecue and chicken will be provided. Please bring a side, salad, or dessert to share! Picnic starts at 5:00. We will eat at 5:30
